I am considering buying an rtv 1100. I live in upstate NY where it gets plenty cold in the winter. I'm wondering if it comes standard with a block heater and how it handles cold starts. Any info from an owner would be appreciated.

I have had my RTV1100 for about 3 years now and absolutely love it. I use it for hauling firewood, snow plowing and hunting. I have not had any problems with starting in cold weather. I did put a 50 Watt patch heater on the oil pan but have never had to use it. This past winter I did end up with water in the fuel and the fuel filter froze up. It still started but was stalling under load. I had to drain the fuel and replace the filter. I see you are in Upstate NY. I am half way between Rochester and Buffalo.

Thanks xerman, sounds like than it does not come with one since you put the patch one on. Is it good as far as power? I know they are fairly slow and im okay with that. How about a full load of firewood on a steep hill for example? How does it do on say a moderate grade just driving along?

Mine starts just fine regardless of temperature...Just more time on the glowplugs when its bitter cold...I don't have a block heater.

dbutler, Mine did not come with a block heater and as far as I know the newer ones do not either.Although, they do not seem necessary. As far as power, there is plenty of power it is a real work horse. It is not built for speed. For example you will not keep up with an ATV. The tops you will get is maybe 20 some MPH on a paved flat road. I have hauled a full load of firewood up some fairly steep hills with no problem. The dump bed is great whether you are hauling firewood, dirt, gravel etc. I just started using mine this winter for plowing snow and it works great. You can go out to plow with sneakers and a lite jacket. After a half hour you end up taking the jacket off as it so cosy warm in the cab. What a great thing after I had moved snow in open cabbed vehicles for the past 35 years and froze my butt off. I really have nothing but good things to say about my 1100.

Xerman, thanks for the input. I've decided to go with the rtv 1100. I have an L45 and the two should be a great combination. Now getting my wife convinced we "need" one is the hard part...

Many of us know exactly what you are talking about. (convincing the wife)
I have had a B7100 ( with MMM, back blade & front mount snow blower) for the past 17 years with out a lick of a problem. My wife went with me to the Kubota dealer when I was looking at the RTV's. I was going to get the RTV 900 when she said why don't you get the one with the cab with the heater and the A/C. Well that is all it took.
What a woman!!!!!!!!!!!

Two kubota's and a good wife, you have it made. So far my sales pitch is going well. My wife is quite supportive with my tractor attachment purchaces so far. She likes what we can accomplish with them. To date I have QA forks, curtis snow blade, woods 6' box blade, woods 7' back blade, woods 7' snowblower, woods 7' rake and a landpride QH. I had the kubota top n tilt installed also. It makes all the implements woks much easier and more efficiently I think.

I LIVE IN WI. AND HAVE AN RTV1100. I DON'T HAVE A BLOCK HEATER AND THE DEALER DID'T RECOMMEND ONE AS LONG AS I WAS GOING TO KEEP IT GARAGED. NO PLOBLEM AT ALL STARTING IN COLD WEATHER. I USUALLY TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH ON TO GET THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT AND HOLD IT FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN HIT THE STARTER. AND AWAY WE GO.
