There's a current thread over in the "Attachments" section concerning the operation of the hour meter on Kubota tractors. Apparently some Kubota tractors have hour meters that depend on engine RPMs. I've never paid any attention as to whether that is true for my RTV 900 but I assumed that the meter was independent of RPMs. Both my RTV and its manual are at my farm so I can't check it out. Is my assumption correct?

I got this from GrapeMan and did my 900. Worked great after having 8 hrs added because someone's knee hit the key switch.

I think I have an answer to one of you guys questions. Running the hour meter only when engine is running. Two different times my
key got left on adding 4 hours to my meter!

Here is what I did.

1. Make up new 6" long wire with fuse holder+1/4 amp fuse, with female spade connector on one end
On back of hour meter disconnect (red/yellow) wire and leave it disconnected
On the back of the Battery emblem is a light socket, there is a (white/red) wire (mine is marked #2) splice

the new wire to this wire and connect it to the empty terminal on the hour meter.

I have run mine this way the last 20 hours with no problems.

The #2 wire (white/red) on battery indicator light, comes from the alternator to the battery indicator light and is positive 14 volts only engine is running.

Just warmed up the 1100 for a cruise and the hour meter moves on idle..Not just power.

Yes the 11's start clocking when the alternator is turning, in other words the engine is actually running either in an idle or moving.
The 900's ran the clock when the power was on, didn't matter if the engine was running. Just required voltage from the battery.
So the new wiring only applies to older 9's at least as far as I know 2008 as that was the year I had at the time. Newer ones may have been updated.
And with this new wiring from GrapeMan, it got it's feed from the alternator as well so the engine has to be running.
