2013 KUBOTA RTV 900
We recently purchased a 2013 Kubota RTV 900. We ae having a problem shifting into and out of gears, especially reverse. If the brake is used when backing up the only way to get it out of reverse is by turning off the RTV then putting it in neutral. Then you have to move the shifter around the neutral area to find a "sweet" spot before it will start again.
It seems to start if you move the shifter to the right like you are going in reverse without moving the shifter down. The dealer I purchased it from looked at it and said this is normal?? and it is because the brake is being used to stop. We still have some trouble getting into drive but with a bruised hand it can be done without turning off the machine. Why would Kubota put a brake pedal there if I can't use it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

dealer is full of crap. I have a 6year old rtv900 that I use hard every day Most likely it shifts hard because there is too much pressure in the system when you stop, just use the pressure release valve on the dash, it will do the same job as turning off the engine, that is relieving pressure. if that doesn't work, then the linkage is out of adjustment, raise the bed and follow the shifting mechanism and you will see the adjustment threads. I have done it with mine and it is easy to do Also there is a billet you can replace that will allow tour rtv to come to a coasting stop that is much easier to deal with than the sudden stop the factory set up . Easy to install and you will be glad you did it.

Thanks rgr33, I am not aware of the pressure relaese valve. Do you know if it is on a 2013? I like the idea of the billet to come to a coasting stop. Only using this on a small horse property to drag the arena (BTW the RTV stalled out three times pulling a "arena rascal pro" last night) and move bails of hay around. Would be nice to come to coasting stop.

I have an 04 RTV. No pressure relief of any kind..In 05 or 06 they came out with the"knob" and later still the releif was moved to the brake pedal. Try keeping pressure on the brake pedal and turning the steering wheel back and forth. If you go to "ATV & Utility Vehicles" on this forum search on RTV shifting problems or creep adjustments, you'll find lots of useful info. There is a good write up there on adjusting the shifting cables etc.......good luck!

There are hydro adjustments that can be done so at a stop, there is no pressure trying to make it creep. It sounds like it should be done by a "qualified" mechanic with the correct pressure gauges and training.

Kanook, I read a thread that you and Matt had a lot of good information for creeping. This may be the problem. There have been a couple times when the Kubota was in a flat sand arena, someone got off leaving it in hi and it crept forward.

ruffdog, agree with you in regards to the qualified mechanic, the selling dealer had it for a week just to tell us it is operating normal.

This is what I want to say in the #5 post: There are hydro adjustments that can be done, there is forward and rev low pressure that might be trying to make it creep. It should be done by a "qualified" mechanic with the correct pressure gauges and training.

If it can creep forward in "H" on sand, it needs to be adjusted...I am assuming that your idle speedisnot too high, as that could affect it as well...but I suspect that if you jack up the back wheels off the ground, insure it is NOT in 4 wheel drive and put it in H and adjust the HST link till the wheels stop spinning that it will shift much better.....MINE DID. As far as the pressure adj, without the proper test gauges and knowledge on their use it is a job best left to a pro....Sounds like your dealer lacks a "pro" unfortunately.
