Do most rtv 900 owners depress the brake pedal simultaneously while changing gears? I have noticed my rtv 900 shifts easier if I don't push the brake pedal (most of the time). I have 18 hours on my machine and it is still tough to get into reverse.

Not sure if I am going to set it up for plowing yet until I smooth out the shifting.

I don' tknow what "most" owners do, but I step on the brake and if it does not slip right into reverse I give an ever so slight nudge on the accelerator pedal while moving the shifter into reverse. It seems to be a learned skill. A little too much increase in RPM, and it will grind. Just enough and it slips right in.

Same for me on RTV1140.

Same for me on a 900XT. Stepping on the brake is just instinctive because that is what I do when driving any on road vehicle. I've only had to nudge and step on the gas once or twice. And that was on a hill.

Thanks for the replies! I also tap the gas pedal to allow the change. I think for some reason it is getting more difficult to put in reverse. I may have the fluids changed early.

Since the 900xt has the 1100 transmission, do 1100 owners also tap the gas to allow it to go into gear? I don't read as many complaints about the 1100's.

That's the first time I've heard the 900 xt has the 1100 transmission. I too have a RTV 900 XT. Mine shifts fine with only an occasional accelerator tap required. I do use the brake most times out of habit.

Have an RTV1100 vbought in 2007. When I am coming to a stop to change direction I will let up at the last bit quickly and then tap the pedal with having my hand on the shifter and it just slips out, then hit the brake hard enough to engage the hydro pressure release and the hydro stops and most times will slip in or let up and let it move a bit and then slips into gear. On a hill I will leave it in gear when idling or stopped as a creaping hydro runaway is extreamly slow if the brakes fail while also setting the park brake good. If starting on a hill, will press brake pedal hard to dump hydro pressure built up on the hill and release park brake while slipping into gear.

I do engage 4 wheel while coasting and to disengage will speed up to have drive train catch up with front axle and then let pedal up fast and it just slip the 4 wheel into 2 wheel drive.

The loads that these things will carry and not even hesitate or kick or scream is amazing, just do not get it stuck in slick or deep soupy mud as the RTV is nothing more than a brick with wheels but is just about bulletproof.
