RTV drive train question

The RTV review in the August issue of "ATV Illustrated" says that "The RTV 900 has one-, two- or four-wheel-drive," and says that the 2WD setting is only 2WD when the diff lock is activated. This doesn't make sense to me (although I do know that some UVs do have 1WD to minimize turf damage), since I think it's something Kubota would market if true and since my understanding has always been that what the diff lock did was prevent the rears from turning at different rates, no matter whether both were driven or not. Does anybody know if the magazine is right, and if it is, how the system works? Thanks!!

With the diff lock off the rear diff acts like an open rear. The tire with the least resistance spins. This allow you to turn on grass without ripping the grass by the inside wheel. If you lock the rear fidd BOTh wheels are locked and tuen as one. If you turn on gras the inside wheel turns same speed as the outside one and will rip the grass. If you unlock the rear and put in 4wd you will have 3 wd I believe that the front is limited slip.. May be wrong here tho. Hope that clears it up.. The diff lock LOCKS BOTH rear wheels to the same speed like a solid axle on a old go cart

I don't think the RTV has a limited slip front differential. I know mine doesn't have it. I wish it did.
If you want to check this, find a rock you can drive up on with your right front wheel. Leave the rear end diff lock unlocked. If the hill is steep enough and the rock tall enough, the front left whell will be off the ground and will spin but nothing happens on the right front wheel. Only wheel turning at this time is one of the rear wheels.

I have not had to put mine on a rock. I have been in places where I had the differ locked and in 4wd, both rears would spin and only the right front spins. So hence no limted slip front.
