We touched on this subject a few months back but I'd like to resurrect the issue.

When I found out a few months ago (thanks Neil) that RTV's need to be titled, registered and insured in PA, I grumbled and groaned that I now have another vehicle to register and insure. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I got the title and registration, but to date, my insurance company still doesn't know how to insure these things. My agent keeps getting bounced around by corporate. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif He's just going to submit an application as close as he can and see what they do with it.

Has anyone insured their RTV? If so, anyone with State Farm?

BTW - Not sure about other states (although I'll bet it's true) but once a vehicle is registered, it no longer falls under your homeowner’s policy for comprehensive ins. (not sure about liability). Prior to getting the RTV (and all the ATV's) registered and insured, should something happen to them (e.g. the building burns down), my homeowners would have covered some of them. I have to qualify "some" in that I had to separate the vehicles as being either "recreational" or "for maintaining the residence". The latter is insured under homeowners... like the tractors are. No longer. You have to buy your own comp. ins for each.

I am keeping out hope that the commonwealth does not find or demand registration fees like these.

I feel for you, trying to do the right thing, and your state has basically blown it. I wonder how many hours you and your agent will waste trying to get it done. Perhaps you should send your fees to your tax commissioner.

-Good luck.

Mike,

You're awfully close to PA... Watch out. I left NY due to taxes and regulations. It's headed south so we're getting hit. You're next /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Outside of a call now and then to my agent, I don't have a lot of time invested so it's fine with me. So far, I haven't had to pay for 6 months of insurance which more than covers a 2 minute phone call/month.

Thanks for your condolences.

Just got to thinking... for anyone that has financed their RTV, have you checked with your ins. co. to see if your homeowners covers it? Has anyone just wanted and been able to buy ins. for the RTV?

Markct,

In PA, the registration does not allow road travel. As best I can figure, it's so they can get a plate # off of quads that are doing things wrong. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Also a way of the government getting more money from us. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I still haven't figured out why we need them for machines that never leave our own land (other than getting more $$$).

In the NW, there's a state or 2 that allow UTV's to be registered for road travel but I know of no place E. of the Mississippi.

I did the money through Kubota after I talked with my Allstate man who said it was covered by homeowners insurance, just like the tractor.

I did get a call the other day about uping the insurance, maybe they caught on? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Since my Ranger is not kept at my house I have a seperate policy for it and my tractor. $200/yr including liability for the UTV.

I insured my ATV through Country Companies and they did like a car...$200 a year. I really dont need to insure this vehicle but it has been kept in a somewhat unsecure facility so until I completely secure it I will keep the Insurance. My Rhino is not insured right now but I keep it in my work room that is kept securely locked.

I insured mine with the same people that have my homeowners under an inland/marine policy. I covered it againsts all loss (fire, collision, etc.) and it was like $60/year. They insured it the same as a tractor. I have my insurance with Shelter and according to my agent, State Farm has the same method of insuring this equipment. However, depending on location of course, the price will vary. GS
