I am going to put a winch on my RTV. What size and brand are you guys using. Any info will help.

I have a Warn winch for about 6 years now and I love it, I would recommend to stick with the major brands for durability
:)

I have a 3000 lb Ramsey with the wireless remote. Nice winch and I really like the remote controller, but if I had to do it over I would go with a larger winch, a 4000 or 5000 lb rated one. The RTV is a heavy machine and I have been stuck and a single line pull will not free it without help from the RTV ( spinning the tires). The capacity of the winch goes down as the cable spools on. On the smaller winches a brake is an option, so if you use the winch to hang deer, elk (your name says you are a hunter) or hold the RTV in position, the brake will keep the winch from unspooling once you stop it. You can buy the brake kits for the winches at atv shops. Go with as much winch as you can mount on your machine, too much is better than too little.

i agree go with the biggest and baddest winch you can fit on your rtv. you never know what kinda hole your gonna get into.i got into a hole one time with my hpx and the winch alomost didn't help me out none but i do have a little 2500 warn i wanna get a 4000 warn or ramsey.

I don't have any 'real' winch but I carry around with me a 2 ton (I think) come-along when I feel I am likely to get stuck. It easily pulls my gator. But I've only had to use it twice. Once I got hung up on rocks but the other time it didn't work. Reason being there was a little tree stub that was holding me so not much could help me except a chain saw (to make a long story short).

Let us know what you get, I am considering one myself.

I would definitely stick with the major brands, Warn etc. I personally have had really good luck with my Warn on my ATV. I have seen other lesser brands have many different problems, and you don't want to be stuck and then find out the bargain winch wasn't such a bargain at all. I would probably want something in the 4000 lb range.

I agree totally. I'll be looking for one for mine very soon. I was thinking the 3000 lb. Warn or Ramsey just because it seems like you don't have the amp draw issue that you get when you go up to the 4000 lb. winch. I would rather have the 4000 lb.

Does anyone know if you have to add an extra battery or are there any special wiring requirements to go with the 4000 instead of the 3000?
