We also had the leaky fuel cap >>>>
Dealer give me a new one ( cap ), didn't work. ....
He ended up replacing the tank and cap....
Now, I was told by several dealers, that the threads on the tank where different than many of the caps. That's why they were replacing the tank along with the cap that came with the new tank. So that the threads would match up proper ......
Even after the new tank got replaced, it would still try to leak, but very little if it was not tightened up really tight., so I did what others has done, and installed a second gasket on the cap and it works good. Still a bi*&^ to get off sometimes, but doesn't leak now ~~~~~~~
This is what I found >>>>> On Both caps, the words - - - KELCH MEQUON MI - - - on on the underbottom of the cap. BUT, the difference is after the WI, is a number. Now, the cap that DON'T leak, has the number 2. The original cap that came with the machine from the factory has the number 1. >>>>>>. THE NUMBER ONE LEAKED TERRIBLE WITH THE OLD TANK !!!
Don't know if it means anything or is going to help, BUT , if one goes to the dealer for a replacement cap. Look at the bottom and see what number it has.
Before the dealer replaced my fuel tank, he sent me a cap that said " DIESEL " on the top. I tried it on the old tank, and it did not work, it leaked worst than the origianl cap. I gave the " Diesel " cap back when the replacement tank got intalled.
Both caps that I have DO NOT HAVE DIESEL on the top !!!!!
WHAT NUMBER DOES YOUR FUEL CAP STATE ???????
~~~~~~~ two guns
