I have a Kubota M-5400 and a B-2910 plus a G-1800 riding mover which is orange too.
I am considering a windshield for the unit, but would like to take it off in the summer and enjoy the bugs and warm air. My wife and I went for a ride in Nov. and turned around because the 40 degree air and windchill took the fun out of the ride. Anyone have a windshield and see an easy way to take it off and put it on without too much hassle. Kenta

Kenta,

I made a split windshield that comes off pretty easy. Look at the attachments I posted in this thread
More description of the design and stuff can be found in my posts here

I honestly don't take mine off too much since I found that I prefered the bugs be splattered on the windshield as opposed to my (and my kids) faces. I still got a breeze under the windshield. For the winter, the gap between the windshield and hood is now filled with a rubber shield.

I have the Kubota factory windshield and it could be removed by taking off the 4 small screws at the lower latches (2ea) and at the top there is two options. 1) take out 3 large machine screw and leave the hinges or 2) take out 6 bolts and leave henges attached to the windshield.

I think it would take two people (one to help hold up glass) about 10 minutes to remove or install the windshield once it's been installed the first time.

FYI, it's a very nice windshield and made with curved glass to reduce glare. It tips out at the bottom about 5" to get some air flow on those days that it warns up fast. It's also pre-drilled for two wiper motors which are also available from Kubota. Windshield cost about $ 599.00 and each wiper runs about $ 130.00. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the reply. I probably will buy a Kubota windshield and leave it on. It's just the idea of having the wind in your face when it's 85 degrees, but in Vermont it usually isn't hot that long.

Thanks bczoom. You did a beautiful job. I am not too handy with that kind of work and you are probably right about keeping the windshield on. I had motorcycles when I was younger and the romance of no windshield faded after the first junebug almost knocked me off the bike. It's fun to jazz up these RTV's. I beat up everything on the farm so I wanted to keep this toy for fun only. thanks, kenta

If you'd still like the wind in your face then look at the attachment.

This cost $14 at Consumer Auto Parts. I used five minute epoxy to attach the mounting bracket to the top frame of the windshield. I also reversed the mounting arm to aim it to help defrost the windshield. In the summer I can switch the arm again and aim it at my face. You can also have this oscillate side to side.

It comes with a power plug for the lighter socket. I'd like to find a switch similar to the one used for the heater blower so that I can vary the speed. Maybe something similar to a light dimmer switch. I looked at Radio Shack but couldn't find one. Anyone know a source for something like this?

NAPA auto parts has a switch for a heater. It will allow you to control the fan speed.

FL Cracker,

Thanks for the suggestion but I belive the Kubota heater switch is made for a motor with two separate windings so has three wires - hi/lo/ground. This wouldn't work with the two wire set up for the fan I'm using. I'll have to get a flashlight and check this out for sure. I'm just going by the set up instructions that came with the heater right now.

jpalasek,

Thanks - I'll check out NAPA tomorrow.
