I'm just about sold on not getting spring tensioners with my chain purchase. In the event that I do want to put something on the chains, where does one find those nice (made is USA/Can) rubber tarp straps? I don't think I've ever seen them for sale.

Thx - JayC

These guys make a good strap here in canada. hmmm apparently the website is censored. Parent company is argus industries. Straps are called snappi-hookers. add a .com to that for the website

I think i got mine at princess auto.

http://www.snappi-hookers.com/ weird it worked this time??

If your just looking for rubber bungi cords go to Lowes, HD, or Walmart. Their inexpensive and will only last a yr in the cold. Mine all cracked and broke by the end of winter. I'd go with the spring tensioners at least they'll last.

Why would you tell him to buy the exact cr*p he is looking to avoid? QUALITY ones that last and won't self destruct (from lack of UV protection) are available and are made in USA or Canada and NOT China.

First off the OP never said the spring tensioners were cr*p, he just wanted to have the option of possibly using bungi cords. I answered his question "I don't think I've ever seen them for sale" and offered my personal experience with them. Mine failed due to the rubbers inability to withstand cold temps, and not insufficient UV protection.

Better straps are made of better rubber you cant deny that. The ones i linked to are made from heavy EDPM type rubber. I can speak from experience that they take UV and cold equally well. I've never had one get cracked and flakey as is typical of lesser straps.

From the OP's post i gather that he didnt want the cheap china crap that is typical of the big box stores and i certainly cant blame him for that. If more thought that way our manufacturing industry wouldnt be in the state its in.
