"Ruff Day"

My wife and I had to say goodby to our boxer today. We had adopted him during the super tornado outbreak in April 2011. What a day to drive from where we live in KY down to Manchester, Tenn. to meet someone shuttling him from Alabama! Our vet put his age at 2 to 4 years old. So, we know that he was 13 years old plus 2 maybe 4. That's ancient by boxer standards.

He had been going downhill for awhile now. Then, in the last couple of weeks his back legs were giving out and he was having breathing issues. We could tell by his eyes that it was time. This is him in his prime.

Nice looking pup. The years go by too fast, it's always hard to say goodbye.

Beautiful dog. Sorry for your loss. Our pup is getting up in age too (16+) and has issues like hearing, sight, no teeth, etc. She still gets around good but sleeps alot. Instead of going for a walk, it is going for a carry. She will most likely be our last dog.....that hurts the most.

I'm sorry you lost your friend; dogs really are special, they're loving and trusting in a way few people can manage.

Take care of yourself, and your missus; that pup wouldn't want it any other way.

We, as Hoomans do not deserve Doggos, but our lives are so much better with them.

We have two boys, both 7 year old GSD's, and I can't imagine life without them. I hate to hear about your puppers, but I can tell you gave him his BEST life.

I have thought about my boys getting old, and the time when I have to let them go. I can only hope that I have the courage to do so when it's best for them, not for me.

Our time with them is entirely too short.

Sorry for your loss. We lost Henry last September and it was incredibly difficult for us. As @Darth_DMack said, we don't deserve our dogs but they love us anyway and we love them for it.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. The long walks has ceased quite awhile ago. He had a good long life. I have had 8 boxers over the years, most only lived to maybe ten.

So sorry for your loss. "Ruff Day" indeed. I've had 4. I had to put my yellow lab (would've been 13 in June) down about a month ago. I need to change my avatar...
