The only one I know is to go out there and get a handful of the soil and squeeze it. Then when you open your hand, if it remains a mudball, it's too wet, but if it easily crumbles and falls out of your hand, it's time to plow.

It depends on how much rainfall you've had and what type of soil. Around here, in this poor sand, and with the pitiful little rain we've had, I'd say it's been dry enough to plow for about 4 years!

Here in western WA where it rains all the time you wait till there is no standing water and then try it and if you don't get suck it was dry enough to plow, if you get suck, it is still to wet. :laughing::laughing:

If the ground is shiny coming off of the mold boards it is to wet also.
