Not knowledgeable enough to question the "life" of a tractor. If it is 5000 hours, that is still a long time for most owners. My 1988 JD had 1103 hours on it when I bought it a couple of months ago (so the previous owner put on less than 40 hrs/yr). I am expecting to put about 60-75 hours a year on it so it will last my lifetime...20 years (late sixties currently). My costs for the machine and 5 attachments came in at $4000. Add in the repairs I needed on it and it totals about $6500. After 20 years it will still be worth $1500 so total cost of $5000... $250/year. Add in $750 per year for repairs, maintenance, fuel and other stuff. For $1000 per year ($13-17/hr).
