Oil & Fuel Running out of fuel and restarting

Hi, have just been trying to get my Massey 590 started after running out of fuel. Put fuel in tank then started on the lift pump. Have pumped about 200 times, no fuel yet! Do I need to try another 200?! Fitted new lift pump recently, and have turned engine over in case cam was in wrong position for pump. Have just ordered new battery, as old one a bit feeble. Can I presume a quick burst with starter motor will be quicker than hand pumping?

Did you open bleeder valve on fuel filter before commencing pumping? After getting air free fuel to filter you need to open bleeder on inject pump then fill inj pump with air free fuel. If you can't fill filter with fuel look for restriction in line/fitting where fuel exits tank.

Loosening inj lines then pumping lift pump will not bleed air out of inj lines.

Thanks for suggestions.I have the original handbook, which says to loosen union on filter outlet and pump until fuel without bubbles comes out. Have done this in the past when changing fuel fuel filter, have also then bled engine pump, but you need to get fuel to filter first. Have removed exit pipe from lift pump waiting for signs of fuel. Hard to believe exit pipe from tank is blocked. hoping new battery soon, will turn engine over fast enough for lift pump to do its job??!!!
