Runway Maintenance Kubota style

This late wet Spring has allowed the grass to get too tall before the first mowing of the season. This 3000' grass strip is used mostly by Light Sport and Ag Planes.

Hmmm--- you would think its just as easy to drag a rotary cutter down the grass strip as it is to drag that roller.

I think maybe they are just trying to smooth out the bumps. The grass doesn't look that tall unless they are mowing with a push type reel mower. Any rotary cutter should have no problem with that. I would have thought they would mow it first then pull the roller. I wish I had a vibratory roller to pull over my lawn to smooth out the bumps.

Looking at the last pic I wonder how soon to impact. Those "speed brakes" indicate a large difference in pattern speed. :shocked:
