We have a WiFi based Internet provider available here that I've been using for the last 4 years or so. At first, they were great but, over the last year, the service has been dropping out numerous times throughout the day, requiring us to reset the radio constantly. We've had them out a number of times and they've even relocated and replaced the hardware here but, the problem persists so I went shopping.

I came across ubifi.net which uses AT&T's 4G LTE network to provide unlimited Internet (data limits are a non starter for us for a number of reasons). Since they offer a 30 day trial, I decided to give it a go. The device showed up yesterday and I'm getting 50MBx10MB via this connection vs. the 5MBx2MB on the WiFi service and, ubifi is $30/mo less. For the price, I don't think this can be beat.

So, I post this up for those of you that are still suffering with non-broadband connections or paying high costs for Hughes.net or other satellite providers. If AT&T has decent coverage in your area, it's worth giving this a try.

It's .net, not .com; big difference.

$300 for the gateway device plus $80/month for service.

I pay around $50 for 25 Meg service, but there are some conditions and issues I can't get into here.

Of course I had to try the .com site! Haha

Anyway thx for the info on Ubifi. Interesting idea for rural folks with good cell coverage. Much of the world gets internet this way.

If there are any copper providers available they should be offering at least 25MB via DSL for $40/ month...That's what we get out in the sticks as long as there is enough wires available...takes 2 sets of 2 pair to get 25mb over DSL/copper...

Our local Mississippi DSL charges $55 (in addition to the phone line charge) for 12Mbps, and we rarely get 5.
My Mobely is $22 and I get 8 to 30.

If the copper is there you should check for other possible providers..may require changing voice providers...

I'm on a wireless system which is supposed to be 10 MB / 3Mb it actually tends to run around 5/2 but they have been having issues the last 6-8 months also, high latency and repeated drops and reconnects.
Unfortunately hard wired copper is way worse not even a thought of DSL.
I doubt that I will ever see cable or fiber optic in my life here.
And AT&T is one of the weaker signals.

If you are not getting what you pay for bandwidth wise...call the provider and have the come out and test.

Do that every month for three months in a row. Document your tests with an app like speedtest. I did this when I had a hunch that att tv was stealing bandwidth from my att internet. They were, I sued and got a decent settlement.

You probably don’t need to sue...just prove you not get what you are paying for and have them credit your bill.

HA!

When I had dsl the phone company told me I could get 10mbps for what I was paying for 1.5. The speed never exceeded 3 so I called to see if they could deliver. Tech worked on it 2 days then had me cut back to 1.5. I argued I was getting 3 when they set my service for 10 so I at least wanted that. No go since the tech said 1.5 only. Dickered with them year after year before I got on the. ATT plan. Then the phone company wanted to guarantee me $45 per month from now on but still couldn't give me a faster speed. No thanks.

Heck of it is they offered the same price for up to 25mbps. How can they figure it's fair to charge the same price for 1.5 to 25? They sell the line all the way down to 750kbps.
