Thank goodness Twinkies are back on the market, they don't weigh much and last forever!
According to the article, the space capsule becomes living quarters on Mars. The Mars settlers will be getting training for eight years prior to launch in all sorts of skills. I'm sure a psychological profile, successful training and observation for many years will be part of the selection process.
Think of the benefits. Never need to live through another presidential election, can't be laid off, only a handful of people to deal with, not seven billion.
Seriously, I can see how some people would like the challenge come what may. We are all going to die someday. People jump out of perfectly good airplanes with no good reason, don't they?
