Hi all, I am a happy owner of 1 acre of land and two small iseki mini-tractors.

But these 600kg were just too light to do the job with the land, do I bought an ursus c 360 , almost 40 years old.

Seems to be in pretty good shape, but testing it showed it stopped every 5 or 10 minutes, and I had to use this manual fuel pump connected to it to push/suck fuel into the system and then everything worked fine for another 5 or 10 minutes.

So today I took it apart to get to the fuel tank, and there is a lot of rust it. This blocks the fuel hose after a couple of minutes.

Anybody have some good suggestions on how to get this stuff out, hopefully in a permanent way?

I will try to attach some photo's. Thanks for the trouble and greetings from Poland.

IF tank is out, I use small gravel and a liquid (usually water) to use as abrasive and do a marimba dance (shake, shake, shake) to loosen up and clean all rust and scale from insides, And thoroughly flush (lots of water) and dry really well.... And usually let it go at that....BUT there is gas tank sealers on market that will coat internals of a "clean" tank that prevents rust and scale in future.... Radiator repair shops uses to do gas tank cleaning also (probably acid dips) but radiator shops are getting fewer and fewer....

Muriatic acid.

Muriatic acid will work on the rust, just don't go away and leave it. I'd try ten or fifteen minutes per surface (back, front, bottom, sides) then flush thoroughly with water. Drain. Flush again. You can also use the tank sealer paint type solution just pull any fittings first. The sealer can close them on a permanent basis.

Would it not be better to use diesel for the flushing? Because water is the reason for rust, and diesel contains some oil. It just sounds better to me?

Anyway i will try to throw in some small stones, and also i will try to connect it somehow to my concrete mixer and have it spin around for two hours. From photo it looks pretty bad to me.

Thanks for input,

Take the tank to a proper shop for pickling and coating.

There may be places with more rust than is obvious.

Once the rust starts its impossible to stop even if you get it cleaned out. You maybe able to coat it inside and use filters-add one if needed. Its not the end of the worl though, if you cant find a replacement then use a plastic one with he right pressure valve. I love the fact that mine is plastic for my tractor but my Honda motorcycle became victim. We tried the acid and talcum powder to get rid of it all but in the end we had to replace the tank.

I had 1\4 tank of gas in it stored in a shed with fuel additives but thanks to ethanol it just rusted like crazy. Diesel should not allow rust if full or mostly full though.

The proper treatment will neutralize and stop rust propagation.
