If they are real bad why not just replace them? The screw in zerk fittings are very inexpensive.

Grease Zerks
That's exactly what I was going to say.
No reason to mess around with crummy grease fittings when changing them is pretty easy and makes life easier for yourself and the implement.

Harbor Freight has a kit of quite a few sizes.. and for less than $5.00.... worth it... and you will have numerous sizes etc for various applications.... they have worked for me several times.

When I bought a used set of small discs 2 years ago..I stripped it..power brushed everything..primed and painted it when I put it back together and used all new bolts and nuts and new zerks. Its good for another 20 years now. Took 2 full tubes of grease too...

Zerks to too cheap to mess with...replace them

As per usual - nobody carefully read your post. You very clearly asked about removing the fittings.

I'd try something like Aero Kroil or PB Blaster on the threads and let the fittings sit over night. After 24 hours, I'd tap them lightly from the top and then different directions, and then try to remove them.

If that doesn't work, you can try heating them with a propane torch - the problem you'll have with that is cooking the grease that's still in the joint. So, if you try that, do it very carefully - apply heat, tap the fitting, try the to turn the fitting.

I've had the best luck using Aero Kroil - it's made to loosen rusted fittings. Just drench the fitting with it and let it do its thing over night.

Yes, sorry about only answering 1/2 ... the part about fixing them.
To remove them, have you already tried a wrench or socket and failed? In my experience, even rusty ones usually come out pretty easily since behind that rusty exterior there is or has been grease. What about what swines said, did you try that? Even if you bust one off they should be easy to get out with a small EZ out. Last resort is to drill them out and clean out or re-tap the threads.

I've had good luck just recently with ReleaseAll, a Canadian product.

Had soaked 2 fittings in preparation for removal, and decided to give them one more try..... they are now functional, after many previous unsuccessful attempts. Will change them if they act up again.

Couldn't find it online just now, I get it off the shelf at Canadian Tire.

Rgds, Dave.
