RV parking

I decided after all these years to gravel an area to park my camper. My camper has grown from a 18' TT to a 24' TT and now is a 24.5' fiver. I kept the fiver it in the driveway but that sure takes up a lot of parking.

Where I used to park my others was kinda flat, about 2.5" high on the uphill sign. Where I'll put the fiver it's about 4", so I figured I'd level it out a bit before the gravel is delivered. You know that's a lot more dirt than I'd ever thought.

I got it more level and a bit more smoothing to go, as the gravel arrives this evening. I bought 4 cross ties to act as a barrier to keep the gravel out of parts of the yard, actually to hold the gravel in place where the unit will set... Those 8' cross ties are HEAVY.

Only 4 cross ties? I used more cross ties, but had to do the same thing in my backyard over 30 years ago. Of course, back then, in town, I had to do it by hand with a shovel, hoe, and rake to lower one side and raise the other, laid a border with the cross ties and filled it with pea gravel. I'd use a little coarser gravel if I had it to do again and I'd put down a sheet of plastic under the gravel to keep grass from growing through it, so I wouldn't have to spray Round-Up occasionally. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I was in the same boat as you,we had a 26' fifth wheel,and we parked in front of the garage for a while,but we live on a hill,and you could almost walk under the hitch,then we traded for a 32' fifth wheel,luckilywe have a drive way on the other side of the house also,which is black top,but I still had to put a 2x4 under one sidealmost perfect now,I also put a 30 amp plug out by it so we can have it plugged in,if we want to go it's always ready,we usually take it out to our property,thats a whole different ball game.

Got it done. A box blade does wonders on moving gravel.

Still with my leveling... The uphill side is still higher, but by golly I got it level with the terrain of the land. I got it a little closer with a shovel and the knocked the high parts down.

Gravel is so hard, but so soft. A truck and camper weighs a lot more than a B7500 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I now have a driveway again and I now have a place for my 5th wheel.

I already had a 30 amp outlet there, in the driveway I ran an extension cord to the unit to keep the battery up.

I should get a finished pic this evening if all goes as planned. Gonna mow....
