I had to replace the exhaust tube that goes from engine to muffler. Uses two star bolts. The bolts keep backing themselves out. What is solution? Couldn't find anything in service manual. Should I use a liquid thread lock?
I don't know how effective a thread locker would be, the upper limit for them is 300 degrees. If it was my job I would probably go buy new bolts of the correct size and grade, clean out the threads in the tapped hole and torque them down to the spec provided by the manufacturer. If you cannot locate that information I would call the manufacturer and ask to speak to their technical department and get a spec that way.
I know with the tailpipe on my Z-Force, I had to cut a notch in the tube with my grinder and then use a hose clamp as a muffler clamp to hold the pipe onto the muffler. That worked perfectly. Otherwise the pipe just clanged and jingled away with the stupid self-tapping bolt that originally (and crudely) held it on. It's a very loose fit without being notched and cinched down.
