RZT steering is weaker on right than left

New to ZTR mowers and just bought a used RZT 50 with 430+hours and the right side works great. The left side is weak and has 50% of the power of the right side esp when I go in reverse. Is this something that can be adjusted or is this a tranny that is going bad? Thanks

I can email you a Hydrogear maintenance manual. It includes a purge procedure which might help. I had a similar situation which was significantly improved by suctioning out as much lubricant as I could, replacing it with a full synthetic 20-W50 oil, and purging. This seems to be a common problem with these units.

Before you dig in that deep, you may wanna try replacing the drive belt (the one that goes around both hydrogear tranny's and the motor pulley) - these RZT's are fairly famous for left side being weak, for some reason a slipping belt affects the left side more than the right... Steve

+1 also make sure the belt tensioner moves freely. It has a grease zerk. Who knows if the previous owner regularly lubed it.
