Sad way to go

What a terrible thing to hapen to someone. It sounds like he was a brave young man, even dealing with the shock he had to be aware of his injuries. At least he went quick and didn't go through the horrible pain and infections typically associated with extensive burns. I've seen people go for months and then sadly, succomb to the infections.

Yes, that is beyond terrible. I can't even imagine being a witness to that. When I almost cut my hand off, there was no pain. My orthopedic surgeon told me that usually with very traumatic injuries, the nerves are damaged and can't transmit pain. I learned that feeling pain is usually a good thing, it's better than feeling nothing.

Shock has a way of numbing pain for people with serious injuries like that. Your brain shuts down that. Also with 3rd degree burns the nerves are basically severed so you won't feel as much pain as you would with 1st or
2nd degree burns. It is devastating to witness such horrific injuries. I got out of the fire department after taking a two brothers that were 5 and 6 years old that had burned to death out of a camper trailer. I knew that wasn't going to be a career for me.
