Just met another fellow with a "near miss" with the pearly gates.

Here's the article that should be included in every new tractor owners operating manual published by Penn State in 1991 by Dennis J. Murphy.

The diagram on page 3 spells out the idiocy of those that "think" that they are always on top of the reaction time game.

That had been posted on TBN before and I first read it in 2000 or 2001.
Great article and thanks for reposting it!!

In fact, this one should be made a sticky thread

Just left a message for TripleR. Was wondering if all the experienced contributors could send me their best references for tractor safety?...We could lump them into one thread for reference instead of reinventing the wheel all the time.
If we save one operator it's worth the effort. By the way...what's a "sticky thread".

...what's a "sticky thread".

If you look at the beginning of this forum category (Safety) you will see " Sticky: Tractor Rollover Demo Pictures and Videos"

That means that this thread will not move down as other, newer posts are made. It will stay on top for reference without having to do a search to locate it.

Boy...if you read the thread concerning rear roll overs and the drawbar...and all the idiocy being written, you'd retract that invitaion!!! Not refering to TripleR, BTW...he's got some good common sense.

I would agree Roy. Sometimes I'm left scratching my head and other parts wondering why people are questioning the latest in safety devices. Then again when I was young and investigated my first aircraft accident and saw the consequences of mishandling equipment my attitude toward operating manuals and equipment changed 180 degrees.
It happens to the young and then it creeps up on the older ones with lots of time.
The rops bar is a pain when operating amongst the trees, trying to get it into the shop etc...but the protection it offers is the best thing since the tractor was invented (99 percent affective when used with a seat belt) and yet each year we're busy killing one another because they are not installed or are not used. I remember the ROPS discussion on one of the threads and I was literally reading with my mouth hanging open thinking... PYHOOYA dude.
It's the same crowd that thinks they are faster than superman with their reflexes and that there isn't any situation that they can "out think". I've picked up fingers, skull fragments etc over the years and it's always the crowd that challenges sound wisdom. I guess each generation has those that want to learn with heart ache leaving widows and children behind.

Anyway...if we can lump a document with multiple threads attached and make it sticky...that would be great for those that want to learn and prevent fatal/injurious mishaps.

If you check out a number of the pictures folks post on TBN, you'll see quite a few with the ROPS in the folded position...offering little or no protection in a roll over.
Maybe not a majority of pictures, but definitely a significant minority.

There was a woman who called in on Car Talk over the weekend. Her husband thought it was safer to not wear a seatbelt in the city, because in a side impact he could jump into the passenger seat. That is right up there with dodging bullets.
