Hi...

Looking for information, recommendations, and sources for a safety strobe light to put on top of the tractor's cab...

Going on a Kubota L3130 with Curtis Cab... magnetic mount (needs to be removed)... cigarette lighter power feed... primary use in winter when snowplowing on residential streets...

The one from the dealer is thru Curtis cab ~$95 "360º low profile strobe light featuring Lexan® lens. Rubber base protects circuitry and provides a weather tight seal. 3.0 Joule strobe with 300 candela and 70-80 double flashes per minute. Includes Wiring Kit and all hardware. Amp Draw: 3.0"
9LS1A
Magnetic Base and 12 foot coiled cord and plug.

Is 3.0 joules bright enough ? Bulb replaceable ?

Ones I see at AW Direct seem to have better specs... brighter and less amps... but I'm not sure what to get...

Thanks,

Dave...

I bought mine on Ebay. When I was buying, there were probably 50 for sale. I don't know the specs of mine, but it is magnetic with a cigarette lighter adapter and was under $45 delivered.

My situation exactly, except I like the magnetic base...and found a way to use it on my fiberglass BuckTop.

After painting a 6"x6" square of thin metal, I used double sticky foam tape (like they used to use to attach cell phone antennas to windshields) to attach the plate to the BuckTop. The plate is not visible in regular use (unless you're 7' tall) and works great. The tape is available anywhere. The light sits in the garage until I need it. You can tell by the scratch marks on top of my canopy that I need a light that can sit in the garage until needed. A permanent installation is out of the question.

The light I use is a rotating beacon type, with lighter plug-in. It was purchased at AutoZone for around $30, as I recall. The metal base plate, taped to the BuckTop, with the beacon sitting next to it, is shown in the attached pic.

This pic is taken from the backside of the tractor and shows the beacon in place and fired up. Good luck!

Here may be another option. These are used on a lot of fork trucks, and we use them at work for alarm lights. Current draw at 12 v is only .4A, they are very bright and noticeable. I see they offer many options for mounting including magnetic with cigarette lighter. Also come in many colors.

Good luck,

Dave,

In addition to the Tomar site that Surfran posted, here is another on-line resource: http://www.strobesnmore.com/

Dave,

Looks like my memory is not so good. The beacon at AutoZone isn't $30, it's $18.99. Desert Fox is the brand.
