Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Salt Dogg and snow ex experience

Hi to all of you!

Over here in the UK we don't get as much snow as it appears you do, however, we do a great deal of gritting on icy surfaces.
I'm a small landscape contractor and during winter we salt spread small business parks & supermarkets.
I've had drop spreaders in the past (Bunce was the manufacturer) and they were great for walkways, however I need a reliable broadcast spreader that's vehicle mounted.
I'm looking at a Salt Dogg & a snow ex at present.
Both are a similar cost, and Id like to hear experiences both good & bad of these units.

I have a Snow Ex spreader. Can't remember the model, but it's the biggest tailgate spreader. Has vibrate, etc. I like it a lot. VERY user-friendly. One thing I don't like is that after you turn it off, it dribbles salt from the hopper as you drive around. Of course, this is because it is vertical gravity-fed. However, for the price of the unit, you would think they would include some kind of baffle to stop material flow when not in use. It's wasteful and annoying to always be leaking salt. They make some sort of baffle kit, but it is costly and limits the use of the unit.
I guess what I am saying is get a "horizontal" mounted spreader with a belt or chain feed system that doesn't leak rather than a tailgate vertical feed unit.

Thanks for the info - unfortunately I can't get abelt driven spreader/horizontal as its to be fitted on the back of a panel van on the tow hitch.
I spoke to the salt Dogg dealer today and he's been told that the model I wanted wont fit my van!!

So, a snow ex product it is then!!
