Good day and tks for your insight.

About to choose between:

Mahindra 3016
Mahindra 2516
NH Boomer B30

The two Mahindra's both have an 80.4 cubic inch engine, but one is listed at 25hp and the other at 28hp.

How can that be?

The NH at 28hp has a 92 cubic inch engine. Will that possibly have more torque than the Mahindra even though the published hp is the same??

A turn on the fuel output limit screw on the injection pump is all it usually takes. As long as you stay within the basic engine limits (strength, cooling capacity, pressure etc) it's that simple.

Kubota does the same thing with their L3400, L3700SU, and L3800 to name a few.

Yes you can massage the pump and get the extra HP. All the HP in the world won't help you though if you don't have traction ;)

If you look at the specs on just about all makes of tractors, you will find several models with the same frame size and same engine model and cubic inch but different horsepower. Most time there is very little difference in weight also, maybe a tire size change in width or no visible change. It is the same with automobile engines, you can have a 5.0 liter engine with 200 HP or 1000 hp, it depends on how the internals are set up. Tractor models arent that radical in HP changes and the design is usually accomodating to address 10-20 HP without changing any of the frame components.

Thanks all for answers.

Knowing the importance of torque, I was asking myself if these small differences carried enough weight to choose one model or brand over another based on HP. I believe not, unless its a big difference like 20 hp vs 30 hp which would matter.

Take care all.

When I was a truck mechanic working on Cummins diesels the basic 855 cu. in. block could produce between 250 and 400 hp. different pistons, fuel pump settings, injectors, and a turbocharger differences allowed it to be a 250, 270, 290, 300, 335, 350, or 400. One basic block with different internals, and pump settings were the only difference.

LOL I know what you mean. My 97 12V in my truck dyno'd 559HP to the rear wheels ;)
