For anyone interested you might want to check your local Sams Club....The Mrs. and I just bought 4 pkgs....about 15 pounds of boneless, skinless Chicken Breasts from our local Sams Club for $1.77 a pound....Some grocery stores here are charging over $5.00 a pound for the same thing....Just passing it on...

My "Beef" with the Sam's club chicken is the injected water. Look at the label ... 12 or 18 percent (Don't remember) solution of salt water & stuff....

Wifey & I when to Sams Club today and didn't see the chicken special so it was likely a local deal? We like to graze on the food samples they give away. :)

That's pretty good for boneless and skinless. Just about any meat/poultry under $2.00 is a deal these days.

Several weeks ago our local grocery chain had split breasts for .99 a pound. They sold out quick and we had to get a rain check. It took them over two weeks to get more in. When we eventually did get them I skinned them and boned them out.

One reason I like to get them with bones and skins is I get the breast piece plus the little strip and I keep the bones and skins and make soup for the freezer to eat on cold days.

Making soup is the only reason I (a single guy living alone) will cook up a whole chicken. I have a lot of soup in my freezer. :D

The $1.77 bin of chicken stays pretty empty at our store. It's there, it's just always empty...

We were in Sam's Club yesterday and bought exactly the chicken Bob described before reading this thread. Our store had freezers full of it (two big ones). As a matter of fact, I noticed all the meats including top end steaks were well stocked. I love those boneless skinless breasts for grilling and smoking. They seem to always be delicious. My wife just told me that the regular stores we have would be priced at $2 to $2.25 per lb, so they aren't as expensive as Bob mentioned, but still a very good deal.

One of my diet foods is beans. I love all kinds of beans: pinto beans, black beans, navy beans, great northern beans, kidney beans, ad infinitum. Sam's has 6-packs of 12 oz cans of pintos and black beans at around $4.50 or $0.75 per can. That's way cheaper than a 12 oz soda out of a machine and far better for you. I dump a can of black beans into a bowl, add some spices and chopped onions, then heat them in the microwave for 3 or 4 minutes until they are steaming hot. Sprinkle a little Parmesan cheese on top and the beans are great alone or with cornbread or crackers. I don't do cornbread or many crackers on my diet, but I've found a 35 calorie rice cake is not a bad substitute. The single can of beans makes a great meal that sticks with you and is a staple of my dieting routine. Sometimes my wife will have a small piece of leftover ham or chicken breast that I chop up and put into my beans for an extra treat. I can fix beans and soups too, but that quick meal that costs less than a buck is hard to beat.

That bothers me too....I have toured Chicken plants and seen the injectors..they are a block of needle like rods dozens of them and they come down on chickens or chicken parts as they are moving on the conveyor and pump them up with chicken broth...Now that is what they told me when I toured the plant and that is what the lable says on the chicken...now what else they put in the chicken as far as hormones, antibiotics...etc...who knows...I hate it too but what are we to do...I just cook it good and hope I am cooking any bad things out...

Moss, I love to save bones for soup too....Our local Kroger just has a sale going now for Split chicken breast at .99 a pound. We eat a lot of soup and Chili in the winter...I have a big pot of chicken soup on right now...Yum.

Jim, At our local Kroger they have skinless , boneless chicken breasts for $4.50 to $5.00 a pound with an organic label and heart healthy ...comes in small packages and folks buy it....I think it is a scam.

I love beans too and make a meal out of them just as you described...funny how a little piece of left over meat can really make a can of beans...little onion and jalapeno and good eating..

Wonder if the 12 or 18% injected water is in addition to that waterlogged Kotex packed under the chicken?
