My son and I were in and out of Sam's Club the other day and noticed a utility vehicle. Looked somewhat Kawasaki Mule-like with a dump bed, roll cage and split bench seat. I didn't get a brand name or many details and I think the price was either $2999 or $3999 (my son tends to offer a lot of distraction /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ). Anyone seen these and know anything about them? We've been toying with the idea of a utility for tooling around the place, landscape jobs etc. Price seemed a lot more reasonable than a Gator /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I believe your $3999 price is the right one. I guess all the Sam's Clubs have them now, but I don't know anything about them other than briefly looking at them. They definitely do not have all the features and are not on a par with Gators and Mules, but for the price difference, I assume they'll be worth it to some folks.

I looked them over one day while I was Sam's. For the price they looked good. The fit and finish was nice. I don't know anything past that. I would want to know if it could pull a load or climb a hill well. One thing that I would check into and I doubt that they offer it, is some kind of power dump option. Trying to lift the bed on my Gator when it is empty would just about give you a hernia. When I bought it I went ahead and got the power dump. You may have no reason to need it, but if you do, it is NICE.

Rob, I think that vehicle you saw is a Yerf-Dog Rover (see attachment). They are an entry level utility vehicle, but will probably provide anything someone needs for basic transportation and a small amount of cargo. The load limit of 783 pounds includes the passengers, so it should not be confused with a vehicle like the Mule which has a capacity of 500 lb for passengers and an additional 800-1200 lb capacity in the bed. For $3,999, I think you can get a lot of use out of the Rover. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I tried to link to the samsclub.com site, but it only worked for a short while because Sam's won't let you link inside their site. Here is how to find the Rover:

1. Log onto samsclub.com

2. On the left side of the page
under "Personal Needs" choose
"Sports and Recreation"

3. Under "Sports and Recreation"
look for the blue banner that says
"Outdoor Motorized Vehicles"

4. The Rover is listed at $4,391,
but may be on sale for $3,999
in the Sams Club stores.

I have the small Mule 550 and have seen the Sam's vehicle. Seems well-made enough, but if I remember correctly it has no rear suspension at all. My Mule only has 950 pounds capacity with 350 in the bed I think. But it drives great and has a good ride. The Gator that competed price-wise with it did not have the rear suspension either and it had a very rough ride.

Yeah, that was it. How could I forget that name! Hey, thanks for all the info guys. I guess if we ever get serious about a utility there will be a lot of things to consider /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I just noticed one of these Yerf Dog Rovers at our local TSC. For the price, it does look nice. Does anyone know anything about them? What kind of engine, who makes them, etc?

Rich - I e-mailed YerfDog to find out what engine they used. They e-mailed back and said it was an Agean engine if I recall correctly (it was several months ago). I had never heard of Agean. I did a google search for Agean and the only seemingly related company was in India. Due to concerns about parts and repairs, I decided against one.

You might want to take a look at the new JD Gator CS series. The specs are as good if not better than the Yerf-dog, and the list price is only $500 more. I would think most JD dealers would do a bit better than list, which would make the price difference even less (I doubt you'd have much luck haggling with Sam's Club or TSC). JD service and parts availability are definitely worth the difference, IMO.
