Sand paper, what type to use on slip clutch hub.

I am trying to smooth out both side of a rusted hub that came out of a slip clutch. I have cleaned the rust off but now need to smooth the hub out some so it won't be so hard on the friction disks. What type and grit of sand paper should I use. Thanks for any info. Larry

Might try some emery cloth of 60 or 100. Then when smooth, put some polish on it with some 400 or 600. Use a block of wood for backing so you take off the high spots, and don't deepen the low spots.

But you are going to more work than I would be. Good on ya.

I would not fool with it it will grab better rusty.

I'm onboard with the emery cloth idea, if thats not available then use the sand paper routine. The ides is for it to slip when needed, and rust prohibits that action. But you don't want it so slick that it will slip.Just like an auto clutch disc.

G'day i would not bother making it too shiny most clutches are adjustable don't tighten up too tight ( enough to drive and then a little more ) and leave it at that, the rust will burnish off when it slips

Thanks for the ideas, I don't want it to slick but I do not want it to grab, that would defeat its purpose. I need to know what would make easy work of it. Thanks Larry
