I just bought a satoh beaver. I am have trouble shifting gears. The clutch engages fully, but sometimes does not fully diengage. For example when depressing the clutch in motion the tractor still wants to move. When changing gears I get a grinding, most of the time. I adjusted the pedal as in the operators manual and it made it worse. Then I adjusted it to disengage as far as possible and it is working better but the pedal stoke is much greater than stated in the book. Maybe there is an internal adjustment, I don't know. I am new to tractors and just don't want to cause any damage as this seams like a good little tractor. Does anyone have a service manual for this, or any experiance with the same situation? Please help!

First, you need to come to a complete stop to shift. There are no synchronizers to allow shift on the go. Your clutch is not disengaging probably because the splines on which the clutch disc slides are dirty or rusted or the disc is stuck to the flywheel. If it won't free up on its own, you may have to split the tractor and clean the shaft and inspect the clutch. We sell parts and manuals for your tractor. Call 800-609-5110 monday thru saturday.
