I have a satoh beaver. When I pulled out the transmission filter, it apparently had a "cloth" screen covering the filter tube. That has seemed to decay over the years. Does anyone have any idea if the filter material can be replaced? I haven't had any luck finding a new filter to replace it with. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a MT180D which is similar.
My filter is basically a brass screen sleeve that I actually repaired by soldering.
Do a search on EBay or even google and you will find all sorts of brass mesh that you could use to shape a new 'basket' and simply solder it over the tube.
The actual material is fairly reasonable for a sq foot. Some sites will provide the info as to mesh sizing.
I have even made a filter to strain water from my fuel successfully.

I recently recovered mine with stainless steel mesh as it was all eaten away also. Bought 12"x12" for $7 on Amazon.com and used JB weld to hold the seem and base. If memory serves, manual cites 100 microns (this is only a strainer).
