Satoh K3A stalls after 15 seconds, with glow plug always "ON" runs for 90 seconds?

Pulled a Satoh Beaver III ( K3A 3 cylinder ) out of field after it was left stilling for 8 to 10 years. Cleaned the fuel tank (removed rust & water, did not have a fuel cap on the tank for years) and replaced fuel bowl & filter. Changed oil & filter. cleaned out the fuel lines and bled air out of injectors. Heated up the glow plugs and cranked for less than a minute and it started with little trouble. Was thinking I am lucking and have a tractor that can be cleaned up and be put back in service. Over the next few weeks I starting the engine a number of times and ran it for maybe a total of 15-30 minutes without issues. Once I got from tires replaced to was time to take the tractor for a long ride ( I hoped ) and check out the gear box. Engine ran normal for about 5 minutes and then started slowing down then stalled. Was able to restart but is again stalled in 10-30 seconds. Engine was not hot just starting to warm up but could still hold the rad. hoses. In order to get the tractor back into the shop I had to keep power in the glow plugs or the engine would stall. By keeping the power on the glow plugs I was able to keep the engine running for about 2 minutes then it stalled again. Seems like a fuel problem but why did keeping power on the glow plugs help keep it running? Check the new fuel filter it clean. Open the bled screw at the injector pump and fuel flows freely from the pump's bled screw ( does not seem to be a fuel problem ). If I let the tractor sit for 30 minute it starts right up like normal then starts to slow down the stall in 10-15 seconds. If I keep the glow plugs (ON) then the engine can be made to run about 1 to 2 minutes before it stalls. Any ideas on the cause of it stalling? Could I have a low compression issue or broken / stuck rings? Do not understand how it ran so go for the first 15-30 minutes then when downhill so fast.

Sounds like a fuel flow issue to me and I would go as follows.

Check the filter first, then check your injector nozzles. If it's not either of those, your injector pump needs to be adjusted or a rebuild.

Get a 5 gal. bucket..Pull the line closest to the fuel tank & watch the FLOW..
SEE IF it slows or stops after a minute or 2.. also check for chunks left behind from the clean out..
Its very possible u have low compression & the glow plugs are heating the cylinders up to allow the fuel to ignite..
I've seen MANY JD's do the same thing.. before AND after a pump rebuild..

It's fixed and running better than before it started stalling. When I first could the engine started after it sat in a field for 8 - 10 years it ran but did not sounded a little odd even before the stalling out started. Now that I found a loose high pressure connection on the injector pump that service cyl. #2 the engine is running grade.

Once I get the changing system working ( Alt. or Regulator problem? ) its time for some new blue white paint. Anyone know of a single wire Alt. with built in regulator that fits a Satoh III ( KA3 )? Thank you for the help.

That is great, an easy fix once found!

As for your generator, it is not exactly "single wire". Case grounded would be more correct.

Following that, pull it, wire brush or use Emery on the frame and on the brackets. Use a corrosion inhibitor like ox guard or something else.

See if it solves your issue for $5 before taking it to a shop for rebuild; which might run 100+.
