Tractor
Satoh ST-3200 B Farmall Internation 454 60 John Deere
Howdy all.
I bought a Satoh ST-3200, 2 cyl. diesel. The tractor runs good, everything works as it should. And..I got it at a very good price.

I was considering tapping in and putting remote hydraulic lines to the rear of the tractor. My log splitter
is 3 pt. and runs off remote.
But, I don't think the factory pump will push/pull my cylinder splitting wood.

My International 454 pulls it fine, but it puts out about 11.5 gpm, and I doubt this little tractor will
put out over 4 gpm or so.
I've considered a remote hydraulic pump, maybe running off a belt.

I wanted this tractor dedicated to wood splitting and working in the woods.
Any suggestions appreciated.

It would work with tractor pump but would be real slow.
You could run an auxiliary pump off of the crankshaft pulley either via V-belt or directly from crank using a U-joint and short shaft.

On my Mitsu I used a U-joint setup and fabricated base for the pump to drive my FEL as the tractor pump was just too slow.
Mitsu did have an adapter for the crank pulley that served to drive an electric clutch arrangement to drive, I believe, a mower.
My FEL now operates at a decent speed.

When I plumbed the factory pump to my splitter it worked fine , just slow. In fact so powerful that I could cut 4" maple into lengths (side cuts) Engine never even burped but the splitter made funny groans and a large 'bang' when the maple cut in half.
It did however prove that my welds were sound LOL (i used a 24" x 4" cylinder that I had hanging around.)
I have everything mounted on a 6" H beam length that is about 5' long and 3 point mounted.

Thanks Piloon for the reply and suggestions.

I thought about a remote pump, then whip up a 5 to 7 gallon hyd. fluid tank, then run the hoses back to the rear of the Satoh.
Run the pump with a belt.

Finding a remote pump under 500.00 that will pump at least 10 gpm will be tough, unless I luck and find a good used one.
I found some pumps for 120.00 from Northern Tool, but I heard some bad stuff from those, some were made in Turkey and India that were junk.

I'll kick the idea around though about the short U-joint mount.

I have a Powerhorse 20 ton splitter, and it runs pretty fast, providing I have over 10 gpm going to it.
The wood I'm splitting can be tough...Hickory, Blackjack, Post Oak, if there's knots and such, and up to 3 ft. across.. I need that splitter cylinder fed lots of fluid.

Off the subject, but I was kinda in your neck of the woods back in 2000 and 2002 in Ottawa, Ontario.
Worked for a disabled home up there as a volunteer for a summer, visited Parliament, went across the river some..met some nice folks up that way.

Thanks again for your reply.
