Satoh S-370 starter repair / replacement questions

I have a Satoh S-370 that has a dead starter and was looking for a remanufactured starter, a starter off a S-370 that is being parted out or other starter brands that might interchange with it.

I have been told that the starter from a 1978 to 1980 Dodge Colt with 2.6 liter engine/auto trans is a perfect fit. A lot cheaper than Satoh parts and readily available. I would suggest taking your old starter with you to compare. An alternative would be to have yours rebuilt at local starter repair shop. That's what I did with mine and it cost around $65.

For my S-370-D Beaver. I Found the answer to my slow, hard starting tractor on "Tractorbynet" From a member...DADZILLA...Get a starter for a Dodge Colt 1978 to 1980, 2.6 liter engine, automatic transmission.( bought one at auto zone for $91.00 for a remanufactored starter)
HOWEVER... You must take the the bell housing off of the OLD starter and put it on the new starter. IT WORKED GREAT FOR ME...
I had left the tractor sit for a month before I did this fix. Put on the new starter and ...I was shocked at the difference... About one engine turn before it took off.

The exact part number for the correct 1.2kw starter motor from autozone is: 16524.

The housing does need to swap with your old starter, as the reman unit that is available has threads cut into the bolt holes and will not allow attachment to the bell housing. If there is any interest, I can put pictures of this process on this website.

When I took my dead starter to a reputable local reman shop, I was quoted 250$ to rebuild.

The reman unit from autozone was 55$ plus a 10$ core.
