I'm getting ready to rebuild my S630 and looking for feedback on rebuilt crankshafts. The engine has 1800 hrs on it and ran fine with no oil burning. It developed a knock and I discovered it had spun a rod bearing.
My inblock measurements show to be just beyond the .040 limit. Standard Crankshaft in NC. has made me a good price to rebuild it back to standard specs. Any opinions?

Thanks, Rick

I have an S630D. It's not in need of a rebuild but if it were I wouldn't hesitate to have it welded and reground. That is very common with crankshafts of all kinds.

But you should know that very rarely a crank will fail in the weld area. Had it happen to me with a Toyota V6 that was welded on one rod journal. It broke near the weld after 5000 miles of use. On the other hand, I've used many others that gave long service with no problems at all.
