I know there is a simple answer...

It used to be if I right clicked on an image and chose "save as" the image would be saved as a JPG if it was a JPG.

Recently for some reason when I do this the only option is BMP. I have saved a couple TBN images recently [of Bird's tip in tilt setup /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif], and they show up on my hard drive as BMP files 900K in size. But they were JPG images from TBN, and much smaller to begin with. When saving the ONLY option is BMP.

I can't find a setting to change in IE, and guess I must be missing something simple. I also don't know why things would have changed to begin with, as I did not change anything...that I know of...

Appreciate any pointers to get me back on track. In the meantime I will continue in my normal state... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I don't know, Henro. I use IE 6.0 and have the option of either one, jpg being the default. You can always open the BMP with Paint, then save it as a JPG.

I'm glad to know that I'm not crazy. I've been having the same problem here lately both at work and home. I have 3 computers and 6 at work so I'm betting it was one of Microsoft's "fixes" that did this. I haven't found a work around for this as of yet.

BillyP,

Thanks for that link. The first two things they say to do did not cure the problem.

As a matter of fact, I bet it is the result of downloading an upgrade to windows XP... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif...like jwstewar suggested.

Frankly, I don't think a work around should be needed! Sheesh...it is Microsoft themselves suggesting that a work around be used! Something is wrong with this picture... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Guess if all else fails we can hope for a future upgrade that fixes the problem... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I've got all and the latest upgrade to Windows XP, so I don't think that is it?

That problem is not specific to XP. I get that using ME and Windows 2000 as well. Each time this happens to me I clear my cache by deleting all my Temporary Internet Files. Once the files are deleted, you will have to close your browser and start it up again to get the photos to save in the correct format.

I hope this solves your problem. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dumping the Temp files always solves the problem for me. I'm running XP Pro and IE.

Gatorboy,

I guess closing and restarting the browser [after deleting the temp files] is the key. I did that and things returned to normal.

Thanks to all for the help!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Didn't work for me /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Maybe I'll try restarting the computer as I have so many things loaded on my machine maybe something didn't clear out. I'll let you know in a few minutes.
