Simple. Call your CC company and dispute the charge. The real estate company has to show you agreed to pay whatever it is you think you don't owe, or the CC company simply reverses the charge and you don't pay.
One BIG reason for using a credit card over a debit card or a check.
I got double billed for a set of cabinets once from Lowes, and would not pay it.
Told them "show me two different invoices where I SIGNED for them, or fix you billing procedures"......end of bill.

For sure CC is safest way to go.
Once made an offshore purchase using CC and when after 2+ months never rec'd the item I called Visa and they reversed the charges.
Also with proper CC you can accumulate points for travel or purchases.
I have arranged with Visa that they debit my current acct and credit my Visa automatically on the due date thus never any 'late fees' and totally safe.
Debit cards really have no protection at all.
Even use CC to pay via Paypal as this gives me double protection. (unless I have a PP credit balance as I do sell ocasionally)

Couple years ago we attended a car show several miles from home, and we had an overnight stay. Both the motel and the restaurant double charged us for everything we put on our card. To add insult to injury, they double charged us $15 for a tip at the restaurant...and we paid it at the time...in cash! We raised enough he77 that they ended up giving us a "free" stay.

Amex will even extend the warranty on products as well as return them when the original seller may not allow the return.
I have used the extended warranty on several occasions. Amex also has fantastic customer service.
