This article was on a local tv station today. Sad to hear about it, but thought it might help us to be more careful around ditches, dams, creekbanks, sidehills, etc. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but you have to always be on your guard when operating a tractor.

CLEARWATER, S.C. (AP) -- An 83-year-old South Carolina man has died in a farming accident at his Clearwater farm.

Authorities told the Aiken Standard that Lewis Atkinson was killed shortly after his tractor slid down 8 feet near a pond and fell on top of him Tuesday afternoon.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton says Atkinson's family found him.

Carlton says Atkinson was trying to plow a drainage down toward a pond when he apparently got too close to the edge of a drop off.

The coroner says he is classifying the death as an accident and doesn't plan an autopsy

That's sad to hear. The old fellow lived to a ripe old age.

Though I hope I have the fortitude to plow drainage ditches and such when I'm 83 years old.

The pics on the news looks like an older tractor with no ROPS most likely.

Had a friends father who turned his tractor over years ago and was trapped under it, alive, until the fire ants stung him to death. Remember that everytime I get on a tractor.
