Scag wildcat
Hello all. I bought a used older scag wildcat with a 27hp kohler. When i got it the guy told me it starts in run and then you have to knock the blue wire off the solenoid. So it did and it runs fine like that. But its not right and it drives me crazy. So im trying to fix it. Replaced switch and replaced the relay that was mounted behind the panel with the switch. Nothing.

There were 4 wires taped together coming out of the motor before the wire plug to the harness. I separated them. the red wire that comes out of the same spot as the blue wire that goes to the solenoid is going to the dsai modules. The other red wire that comes out of the same spot as the purple is going to the carb. Now it starts in start but when the key kicks back to run it dies immediately. So maybe a picture of the plug and the wires coming off of it would be of help. What part of the engine needs constant juice to run? Could this be a problem with the ignition module?

Thanks for any help

The wire going to the carb is most likely a fuel solenoid. Check it for power with the key in the on position

So I put the ignition wire and the carb wire together with the 2 red wires coming out of the electrical plug to the harness. I left the blue wire off of the solenoid. I placed a jumper wire from the start/green wire on the switch directly to the solenoid where the blue wire is supposed to go. And everything works perfectly. I'm just going to leave it like this. Thanks for the help

Glad you posted and glad you got it fixed to your satisfaction.

You mention the blue wire that goes to the solenoid that you left off. Where does the other end of that blue wire go?? Perhaps it was hooked up wrong on its other end, and was supposed to be hooked up the way you got the green jumper mounted now.

Also, since that blue wire was causing it to keep "trying" to start when in run, Make sure you tape up the end of it since it likely has power even when in run, and can easily bounce around and arc against something.

The blue wire comes out of the connecter with a red wire. They both get power when key is in the start position. But motor will not start unless I put red wire with the other red wire which is a constant but when I do that the motor cranks in run position because the red wire and blue wire are connected. I can unhook it after it starts and it stays running. But that wire needs to be hooked in when it starts. It boggles the mind. But I'm happy with it now. Thanks for posting.
