Scared......... parts

I had to drop my 2538 off to get fixed....... hydraulic leak in a steel line running to the right side rear off trans (nothing hit... just a bad tube). Also..... tilt steering wobble (wheel wobbled left, right, up and down).

I got the call yesterday that the steel line was back ordered until November....... They did however get the parts for the steering column.

Now if I used the tractor every day.... I would be screwed...... But I do use it every other day and I am able to make adjustments to my needs of the machine while it is being serviced for a day or two.

They informed me that they are taking the steel line I need from a brand new 2538 on the lot and installing it on my 2538, awesome...... I am very thankful for this.

BUT...... now comes the scary part..... What am I to do when there is no 2538 to rob the parts from (in say a year or two down the road)? Is this going to be an issue? Parts not readily available?

I'm running scared....... I love the 2538....... But I am not looking forward to parts issues?

What is everyone's thoughts on this? Has this happened to you yet?

I wonder if you can make your own hard line with a flaring tool? Cut the old tube to steal the fittings from it and then get new bulk tube line and flare/bend it yourself? Or maybe it's some oddball flare that can not be easily reproduced in a shop setting?

Im sure I could have fabricated one, with out a doubt (in a pinch). But the thought of not being able to get a small steel line for two months has me concerned, down the road if I need parts and I can't get them for a "NEW TRACTOR".

Tym has been notorious for having a slow to non existent parts chain. Mahindra made huge strides to stock a lot of parts. However, even Mahindra can get caught up in this. Two cross reference sources would be Cabellas and these folks have claimed to have the largest tym parts department of the dealers in the USA.

Can the steel line be replaced with a 4 wire braid hose by removing the fittings in whatever the lines are going to?.............Mike

If the leak is from a crack in the line, buy two flare connectors and splice them in. I had a 12' hardline break on my hay stack wagon and the hydraulic repair shop handed me 2 fittings. Cut a 1/2" section out and Bingo !

This machine is still under warranty, the ideas you guys have given are great! It is fixed now, but the "what if? Down the road I need a part that cannot be fabricated", I hope and pray when the time comes I won't have trouble. This 2538 is everything I need and I am very happy with it.

May want to check other hyd. lines keeps eye on front tire seals.

If it was backordered it had to be an uncommon issue.. that tractor is still relatively new and you will find with models like that it take a while to figure out the common parts to stock.. id be willing to bet this is one that just started having issues all at once or they havnt seen it fail much yet.... either way good to know they got you fixed up
