I have, at least what the previous owner said, is a Atwood(don't think in business any more) box scraper. Anyway it is 5' long with 5(well now 4) scarifiers(shanks). I lost a shank somehow, I think it fell off my trailer or something. I asked one of the farmers I work with if he had any 3/4 plate steel to make a new one. He said the steel needed to be heat treated or something. Is this true or can you just make a new one out of that. The local tractor dealer wasn't much help as there equipment was different. Anyway, thought I would ask the pros such as yourselves before I just go and locate some scrap 3/4 plate.

Yes, I think they are heat treated.
You can get spares at Tractor Supply Co. for like ten buck or so if you want. You'll need to call them because I could not find them listed (the scarifiers) on line.

Ditto. The shanks are actually forged steel and typically the tips are a separate part that is dimpled on and is a heat-treated steel. There are only two or three common types and you should be able to find a generic replacement at TSC or other tractor type stores. There is a catalog company out of NC that has the two common styles listed in their catalog (sorry, can't remember their name at the moment).

Just a thought here, but you might want to get an extra scarifer or two.
Used my new BB for one project  :)

I think Rob has a collection of these.

Agrisupply is the company I was thinking of. Thanks Jay!

Spivey, how did you do that??? I have hit a lot of buried stuff, rocks up to over a foot across, and I have bent parts of the scarifier implement but not the shanks. Wonder if I have better shanks and a worse implement???

If Rob is collecting bent and twisted scarifiers, Id be happy to add 4 or 5 to his collection. I bend them all the time.

I am sure many of us can contribute, if he has a collection started that needs some donations. For what shipping would cost, he might appreciate it if I would just send the money for him to buy his own new ones, allowing him to customize them to his own tastes. Everyone has their own tastes in modified scarifiers.
