A short vid of a very early 20 the century school on my property. Wife wants me to restore for her personal library and a daughter that became a teacher and started her career teaching in north central Florida this year.

Interesting, that sure looks like a lot of work, but would be great if you could do it. Just a few miles from me a farmer has moved an old country store to his property and is restoring it. There is also an old school building close by a farmer is using for storage, but he has no interest in restoration.

Looks like a challenge.

To use it for a library after restoration would it require heating and cooling to keep books in good shape and make the building comfortable to use? If so, that would be another challenge.

Exactly what I explained to the wife, setback from power lines is near 1000 ft not really feasible for intended purpose. Given my limited physical abilities without some outside interest or lottery winnings I don't think I will ever get to this project. I've considered selling to reclaimers for the wood as there is some value due to age. Back during the time period there were a few sawmills in the area and I'm certain that is where the timbers and lumber came from. I offered to donate it to the local historical society and they were not interested as they say the county has them scattered around. They offered to list it on the registry as a place for tourist to visit but I'm not interested in opening up my property to the general public.

Most of the old school houses in NW Ohio where I'm from were brick. Really some of the best built buildings around for that time period.

A few have survived intact but many had gable end walls knocked out and were used for equipment storage. Then too small for that as equipment got bigger, they let them sit, roofs go bad and that's the sad end. A building with a jagged hole in one end and a caved in roof.

When I was growing up, our schools were segregated and a few years ago our small town historical committee tried to get someone interested in preserving the last black/African-American school standing in our area, but the projected cost was just way beyond their financial abilities. It was located on several hundred acres donated to a local university who was glad to have the several million in farm land, but had no interest in historical preservation.
