Went to a pawnshop last week to have some papers signed by the owner (investment client).

While he was busy, I puttered about the store. I don't get into them hardly EVER in my life so I found some of the stuff interesting, some of it junk.

I happened upon a DeWalt and some other brand of reciprocating saws. They were pretty junked out looking. As I was puttering around I thought to myself "Gee, too bad they don't have a Milwaukee"

Hmm..I spoke to soon, I rounded the isle and the next isle had a nice red Milwaukee Sawzall box sitting there. The box was closed so I approached with intrigue.

As I approached it, I thought to myself two parallel thoughts. First one... Too bad this Milwaukee will also be shoddy like the others (after all, who would bring stuff in that's in great shape?) the other concurrent thought was "yeah, they might have a Milwaukee, but I was really interested in the Orbiting version"

My hand reached down to open the box that was tagged $100 (retail I think is about $190?)

I opened it up and peered inside

Inside looking back at me was a ORBITAL saw that looked like it was literally brand new. Even the two new blades were in there, one of them was "sort of" beat up.

I'm utterly convinced that someone bought this, used it once or two times maximum and then it ended up here.

I closed the case, called the wife, no answer... so I had to make an immediate executive decision.

Oh, and lest anyone thing my client was "doign me a favor", on the price of it, the truth of the matter is, he wasn't physically in the store when I did this. He had NO clue I bought it. I paid the FULL tagged price (plus tax of course). I asked him the next day if his girl told him I bought it and he STILL had no idea it was gone.

Had he been there, I might have done better, but honestly, I didn't want it to look like I was trying to schmooze a deal on it so I went to the casheir (who had no idea who I was) and paid for it & took it to my car.

So, in that light, I paid full "pawn shop retail", not any special price because he knew me.

Richard about a week ago someone helped themselves to the saw out of my pick-up before they took it to the pawn shop for beer money. Can you return it to me please? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It was in TN right? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That is a good deal. Next time, work her, they usually have a 10 or 20 percent discount for cash. The sticker price is for the lay-a-way crowd. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sounds like the time that I went to a tool auction at a local auction house. It was snowing and not many people showed up.... I wound up bidding and buying 3 Milwaukee Sawzall's because they were going so cheap. I sold one to a friend and still have 2 left, one of which I am keeping. The other is going on eBay one of these months. I also picked up a Milwaukee portable band saw at a flea market for $20 with the case. I am not sure if the good buys are because there is not a lot of buyers, or the market is changing so fast to cordless tools. I have a DeWalt 18 volt cordless saw that is every bit as good as the Milwaukee, and that is a good endorsement for both.
