Scott's 1642 transmission leak K51A

My k51a has a small leak coming from where the brake connection goes into the left side of the transmission. I had the transmission out for the drive pulley fix so had a chance to study the leak area closely and I'm sure that is the problem area. I ordered the repair seal kit and replaced that and reassembled everything and still have a slow leak coming from that spot. The seal is a little tricky to get in. It wants to fold up when you push it in. I can only think it did not get seated properly. Has anyone else encountered this?

A TIP FOR TOPPING OFF THE FLUID: Anyone who has had the K51A out would see a access port on top of the tranny. It is not normally assess-able while in the tractor. If you remove the battery under the seat and have an idea where this port is you can cut a hole about 3inches square in the frame right above the access port. With a small screw driver you can pry off the rubber/metal cover and add fluid. I cut out a small sheet metal square to place over the hole but probably not needed. I used my dremel tool to cut out most of the hole and then some with a sawsall. I would not recommend starting with a sawsall without realizing how close the transmission is underneath the frame. I'm currently living with my leak and check the fluid level about once a month and only have had to add a small amount to this point.

It does sound like the seal install failed. Did you clean/polish the shaft before installation? Lube the shaft first? Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks. Did not clean/polish but was oiled. Worth trying another replacement seal after this mowing season. Bugs me having even a slow drip under the tractor. I can remove the brake assembly and drain the fluid thru that and then refill thru my homemade access point.
