Hello everyone, Like the title says I'm looking to purchase my first lawn tractor to reduce the amount of time I spend mowing my ~0.5 acre suburban lot as well as provide for better looking cut. It's nearly flat and almost devoid of any obstacles.
To start off I'm thinking that I could get away with any number of the big box store specials for a little over $1K and due to the non-existent slope they would work just fine. My concern in longevity and my overwheming belief that most of what's built today is garbage compared to older model units. I also would like to either plow or snow throw the driveway(~19'x80').
So here are some questions specifically regarding a tractor I found while searching the web. It's a Scott's 2554S with about 270 hours on it. It looks very clean in the photos and from the limited amount of research I was able to do it comparable to the JD 275. It has a Kohler 25 hp command(CV25S) and has a TT K66 tranny. Is this deck going to be too big for my lot? I recall reading somewhere that a larger deck can sometimes be a hinderance for a smaller lot. True or not? And am I crazy for wanting the K-66 tranny even though my lot is nearly flat. Is the K-66 tranny capable of using limited ground implements? Is this tractor really a JD rebranded, or a lessor model made for a competitor? Finally, what are you overall thoughts on this tractor and what would be a fair price to offer the gentlemen if the tractor is really clean and in working order. Does anyone have any expierence with this or any similair Scott's branded tractor to offer some insight as to it's build quality, robustness, and general overall performance?
I want to appologize in advance if this topic has been covered in the past. I attempted to look around the forum for something that touches on these questions but was unable to find anything. As always any opnions/help/advice is greatly appreciated.
Have a great Friday and weekend!
