Im thinking about getting a scrpaer blade for our 4300. My ? is with the way the Rockshaft works, not powering down only the weight of the blade to push down, how well will it work? Anyone else use one behind their 4xxx.
Thanks, Jeff

I used to have 6ft offset blade, 5' box on my 4300, both did just fine. The offset blade was fairly heavy. If you have a lighter blade, you might have to add weights. Most of the cutting action is the angle of the blade. I could get enough cut to stall the tractor.

Thanks for the input. That makes sense to add some weight to get it to bite in.

Very few tractors have downpressure on the 3PH...

What blade are you considering?

What material are you scraping? I think of scraping as moving something loose off a hard surface.

If hard dirt, then loosening up the dirt first would be a good plan. Grading hard pack with a blade doesn't work well for me.

The 6' rear blade I use with my JD3200 is heavy enough that my wife and I together can't really lift it. We can shove it around a bit, but we can't lift and carry it across the barn. We have to use a chain and the FEL to move it around.

By adjusting the length of the top-link I can vary the blade's "angle of attack" to make it dig in a bit more, but it does quite well without weights.
