Screw down to check oil level or not?

I have an older 345 and GT275 and other than the engine oil dip stick on the 275 having it written on it, I have the darndest time remembering wether or not to screw down the dip sticks on the 345 engine oil and both transmissions to check the levels. I just remember that they are not all the same. Petty stuff I know, but it aggravates me.

Do you have the manuals? When you get the method identified put a mark on the dipstick to indicate which method is used.
I am lucky. All of mine want the stick screwed in.

Main thing, either way, is to always have oil showing on the dip stick.

Not a biggy IMO if oil is checked and level monitored regularly.

I do have both owners and tech manual for the GT 275 but only the tech manual for the 345. I have looked pretty thoroughly for this info in it but can't find it.

Leave them both loose to read the level ---- just set them on top of the fill tubes.

Generally dip sticks that screw in are checked without screwing them in where as push in type are checked with the dip stick fully inserted.

I can't remember the procedure for Kawasaki. But Briggs screws in to check. Kohler command engines sit on top of the threads, The courage threads down, and I think the new 7000 series and the confidant screw down. Tecumseh sits on top of the threads.
