I'm looking at cab tractors in the 55-75hp range. I really like the "footprint" - size, weight, dimensions - of the 4000 series vs the 5000 for the layout of our small farm; but I'm considering the 5000M's, too.

The new electro-hydraulic SCV options for the 4000 series isn't very clear to me... And the JD configurator doesn't help to clarifiy things, either - IMO.

I want a 3rd SCV on the FEL for a root grapple and bale grapple. In addition, I want at least 3, rear mounted SCV's for TnT and to operate implement cylinders.

I'm wondering "How do I get there from here" with the new model 4000 machines?

Thanks in advance.

PS - I've already spoken with one dealer (who attended the FL meeting) and he was not helpful...

AKfish,
What they should have done is offer the same options as the 110:thumbsup:but they haven't.

IIRC The setup offered uses a two spool diverter setup, what you want is a three spool setup...like the 110. If I am wrong I hope someone else can correct me.

After five years with the 110 and Laurin cab I can tell you I am glad I bit the bullet for the entire package, I would have thought Deere would have offered a cabbed version by now, glad I didn't wait.

Steve - sure wished that a Laurin cab on my 110 would have been plausible - but, shipping from Georgia to Canada (for install) and then to Alaska - whew... I couldn't even guess how that would "pencil out"!!

So, if I understand correctly - 5 SCV's is all that's available - even on the new model's? And there's no diverter toggle switch on the joystick?

Hmmm... and here I was all excited and everything that Deere had really gone and done something....

What did they really do to improve the SCV options, then?

AKfish,
If I understand this correctly they are using the toggle switch on the joystick but it is only switching a two spool valve. the rocker switch you and I currently use only controls the rear outlet via an electric over hydraulic valve.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to sell the 110 just yet.

About the Laurin cab I purchased the cab on a pallet from the dealer and installed it myself, took most of a full day. Took about as long to talk the dealer into signing up with Laurin to be a dealer for the cabs.:D

Steve,

I'm not gonna sell the 110. The wife has even said I would "regret it"! :D

She thinks I should just go ahead and "get what will do the job and what I want"! (I think I'll keep her.. :) )

The dealer I've been working with on a new tractor mentioned that Deere is now offering the Laurin option with a new 110. I didn't follow up on that lead - so don't know any details.

AKfish,
Glad you have a reasonable CFO and yeah you better keep her.

If a 4x20 will fill the bill for you I would look for a 4520 or 4720 cab tractor depending on the deal you can find. If I ever get a larger tractor for the ranch it will be a 6115 cab just for heavy ground work. Right now it isn't in the cards for a couple of years. In the present economy I felt it was a stretch to order the new X749 earlier this month.

From what I've read JD is still way off the mark in terms of what a lot of us would like to see from factory, or as a factory JD option. I'd say the best bet is still to tap into the PB and set up what you want - whether it be mechanical valves and levers, or EH valves and switches.

I'm not a fan of diverters. I like to have all controls available all the time.

I'll be sure and post my planning diagram for my system once it's done and proven to work.

I'm going to add one EH circuit to the loader with an empty spot left in the manifold incase I want to add a second in future. The loader circuit will also have a second control switch that will allow me to have it 'always on' in forward or reverse, in case I ever get around to buidling myself a hydraulic weedwacker to trim around our fences when I mow the pastures.

I'm adding 3 EH circuits to the rear - 2 for full time TnT, and one for blower chute rotation, blade angling, etc. That'll leave the mechanical lever 3rd SCV that's already on there for chute deflection on my blower.

I've done all the planning, but I am cheating in that I'm getting the valves and manifolds installed at a hydraulics shop.

I don't know where you get parts, etc, but Grande Prairie is on the "Highway to Alaska" and has a huge JD dealership, as well as a great Hydraulics place - Risley I believe (ask for Craig, very helpful). Trevor at Norcan in Edmonton is also great. No provincial tax either!! Peter at Interior Electronics in Kelowna is helping me with my switches and grips from Otto.

Yah, I've been watching the markets (retirement investments) for awhile now and it ain't great but it ain't nearly as "scary" as it was a year or so ago..!

I'm an optimist at heart - and a firm believer that no matter what - ya gotta get up in the morning and put one foot in front of the other; regardless!

Thanks for the post, Kenny. Gonna check it out.

I thoroughly enjoy my trips in Canada! :D Great place.. great people! Grande Prairie is awesome - just like the Dakotas - (maybe 10 degrees colder, though). Stopped in for a bit at a Richie Bros. auction. Big, big Iron. Didn't think I could put enough Power Service in the tank to move any of that stuff up the hill!
