Sea Foam

Any one else add a quart of ATF to 10 gal. of Diesel fuel to keep it running great ?

Thought I'd post my "Sea Foam" story.
My 1998 Yamaha Wolverine has been running like crap for a for years. Starts easy but idles really rough and has a lot of hesitation when I give it the throttle. I took it to a mechanic friend who cleaned the carb but it really didn't help. This morning I though I'd try the sea foam. I drained all the gas in the 4 wheeler and bought 5 gallons of ethanol free with a full bottle of sea foam in the gas can. Started it and let it run 1/2 choke while I filled my other 4 wheeler and put some gas in my sled. I then took the choke off, it was full operating temp by now. Seriously I could tell the difference before I even put it in gear. There was no hesitation while revving it up and better yet starting out it just moved without trying to kill on me.
I have used it before but more as a preventative measure. I was very surprised to see it work this good on something that actually had some issues.

I never used Sea Foam in Diesels but I do use a biocide, typically Biobor, to prevent microbe growth at the fuel-water boundary and I use Diesel Purge if I suspect injection issues. The biocide is most important if old fuel doesn't get used up, like tractors off season. The Diesel Purge works best full strength (like filling the fuel filter with if when replacing the filter) but my Kioti hasn't needed that treatment.

2nd for the Biobor lineup. 16oz will treat over 1200 gallons. It's MILSPECed, been around a long time and is used in aviation.

If I was in a pinch I might use the SeaFoam to prevent gelling but not much else with regards to my tractor.

Not sure what the ATF would do. I'd be worried with the modern tractors it causing issues. I don't know if the ATF does anything to the paraffin that causes the gelling and it seems like an odd way to lube injectors- but maybe....My mechanic recommends Lucas Oil for lubrication on my Duramax and it increases my mileage enough that I use it when I'm on longer trips without adding cost - I'm too lazy to use it around town.

Tractors are about the worst case for a diesel fuel (even generators run in a regular basis). We store them in the cold, let them sit for days or longer sometimes and typically nothing is done by the manufacture to help warm the fuel. I'm sure most of the time we can get away with not adding anything but for the small cost of a good additive it makes sense for me.
